چکیده

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) is a member of the large nuclear receptor superfamily whose main role is to activate genes involved in fatty acid oxidation in the liver, heart, kidney and skeletal muscle. While currently used mainly as hypolipidemic agents, the cardiac effects and anti-inflammatory actions of PPARα agonists in arterial wall cells suggest other potential cardioprotective and anti-atherosclerotic effects of these agents. This review summarizes current knowledge regarding the effects of PPARα agonists on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, the heart, and the vessel wall, and introduces some of the insights gained in these areas from studying PPARα-deficient mice. The introduction of new and more potent PPARα agonists will provide important insights into the overall benefits of activating PPARα clinically for the treatment of dyslipidemia and prevention of vascular disease.

Standardized Punica Granatum Pericarp Extract, Suppresses Tumor Proliferation and Angiogenesis in a Mouse Model of Melanoma: Possible Involvement of PPARα and PPARγ Pathways

Melanoma is a challenging disease to treat. Punica granatum L. has a potential anticancer effect. This study determined the antiproliferative and antiangiogenic potential of the extract from pomegranate peel (PPE) in melanoma. Melanoma cells (1 × 106) were injected to C57BL6 mice subcutaneously. On 8th day, mice were randomly divided into 9 groups. Group 1 was considered as control and received...

Therapeutic Effects of PPARα Agonists on Diabetic Retinopathy in Type 1 Diabetes Models

Retinal vascular leakage, inflammation, and neovascularization (NV) are features of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Fenofibrate, a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) agonist, has shown robust protective effects against DR in type 2 diabetic patients, but its effects on DR in type 1 diabetes have not been reported. This study evaluated the efficacy of fenofibrate on DR in type 1 dia...

Combined aspirin and apatinib treatment suppresses gastric cancer cell proliferation

Gastric cancer (GC), one of the types of tumor most prone to malignancy, is characterized by high lethality. Numerous molecular mediators of GC have been identified, including transcription factors, signaling molecules and non-coding RNAs. Recently, inhibition of angiogenesis has emerged as a potential strategy for GC therapy. In the present study, the levels of vascular endothelial growth fact...
